legal advice

My Areas of Expertise

I have been involved in providing legal advice to both private and public sector clients for nearly thirty years.

In terms of the type of law I practice, I describe what I do as being:

Environmental
Local Government
Public Law

legal services

Much of my work falls under the Environmental Law heading, focusing on resource management and a myriad of other regimes related to environmental management. Many of the issues I see in this line of work involve consideration of both public and local government law matters.

When it comes to my legal advice work, my approach is to make sure I really understand what the issues are that are driving the questions I am being asked to advise on. In many cases, the issues as they are presented are not strictly legal questions, in that the law is not the only way they can be addressed. My strength is getting to the heart of the matter, forming a clear understanding of what the case needs, and finding a solution that works for all involved.

To coin a name for what I do, I would describe myself as a trusted advisor to my clients on the wide range of issues they need to have answered. Most commonly, my clients return again and again for advice.

The majority of my clients have been with me for many years, a testament to my expertise and, most importantly, my approach in handling my legal practice.

I welcome enquiries from new clients needing a legal advisor to walk beside them for the years to come. If this is you, please feel free to reach out; you can email me on Helen.Atkins@atkinslaw.nz.
